✨ About Overleaf Ruhr

Overleaf Ruhr is a forked version of Open Source Overleaf which is self-hosted and includes various additional features, many of which are usually only available for paying Overleaf.com users.

πŸŒͺ Features

So as there is a self-hostable version of Overleaf out there, what makes Overleaf Ruhr unique? Well, here we go, our extra features:

  • Git Sync repository (GitHub / GitLab)
  • Real-time track changes / peer reviewing
  • Templates
  • Tags
  • Singe-Sign-On (via OpenID Connect)
  • Fully isolated compiling, enabling the secure usage of packages such as minted.
  • Full document history
  • Some reference search
  • Visual Editor
  • Symbol palette

πŸ€” Who made this?

Lars developed Overleaf Ruhr based on initial work done by fachschaften.org.
It is currently mainly used at Ruhr-University Bochum, but also at other academic institutions in Germany.

πŸ˜ƒ This sounds cool, how can I get this?

Overleaf Ruhr is Open Source and free to use.
Please note that hosting Overleaf is not trivial and requires some advanced system administration skills and a good understanding of container isolation.
Unfortunately, there is no documentation on how to deploy. The docker-compose.yml should help, but I currently don’t have time to write documentation.

πŸ™ƒ Support

For RUB members:

  • If you are a member of the faculty of computer science, there is currently a testing deployment at tex.cs.rub.de
  • If you are a student, the student council IT-Security has a deployment as well at tex.fs-its.rub.de
    • Support is available via fs-its+noc@rub.de
    • Please note that this offer is currently only available to students of the faculties of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering and Information Technology.

For any other deployments, there is no support available, nor am I able to make any guarantees about the software and its maintenance.
